FOR
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXPLORATION (AIE) - DARPA-PA-25-03
Modern warfare demonstrates that traditional weaponry – tanks, barrel and rocket artillery, manned aircraft – have reached the physical limits of perfection. Promising ones, such as lasers, are expensive, few in number and not yet ready to enter the battlefield.
However, there is something that is crucial for current and future military hardware – automated control and management systems that are able to maximize the capabilities of not only equipment, but also personnel from private to general. New project of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to identify trends in the field of "the third wave" of artificial intelligence is aimed to create systems capable to explain their decisions, to adapt to new conditions and to support humans in resolving difficult issues.
Government and military leaders should pay special attention to:
- a clear legal framework in the absence of bureaucracy;
- the speed of implementation of concepts in practice;
- practical orientation;
- openness to small businesses and startups.
