12-GAUGE AMMO TO COUNTER DRONES – BATTLE EXPERIENCE

In modern warfare, drones have become an indispensable tool for reconnaissance, aiming artillery fire, delivering precision strikes, and performing other critical tasks. Their maneuverability and relatively low cost make them a powerful weapon on the battlefield. However, the methods of combating UAVs are constantly being improved. One of the unexpected, but quite effective solutions was the use of 12-caliber shotguns to shoot down low-flying and low-speed drones.

It is explained by several factors: wide availability, low cost, ease of use both for cartridges and guns. With special cartridges the latter is capable of hitting drones at a distance of up to 75 meters, making it a relatively effective weapon for destroying UAVs flying at low altitude. In addition, this tactic saves resources, avoids the use of expensive anti-drone systems, and operates in environments where electronic warfare is ineffective.

This paper analyzes the specifics of the tactics of using 12-caliber rifles to counter drones, its advantages, limitations and potential risks.
